GOODesign is a design studio established in Seoul, Korea by a representative who has been active in product design and 3D CG field for 20 years. As a design company that pursues a reasonable and differentiated digital design, it has always presented a new direction through working with clients such as Hyundai Motor, Siemens Korea and beiersdorf.   This time, we have put out the life product for 3D printing by utilizing various technique design based on the shape of the Class-A surface. These products are especially the result of deep research on the 3D printing dominant shape that can not be mass-produced using a mold.

I lived with many animals in our youth. I played with observing the appearance and movement of animals, and also became a material for manga and made toys. And it later became the source of inspiration for me. The object of this folding design is an insect, a stag beetle characterized by its beautiful horns.

This stag beetle has a structure in which many parts of the six-footed insects move. I have undergone many trial and error to implement this move, and I have finally completed it.

The first is designed to move the bark that covers the wings. I put a protrusion on the end to fix it well. The second time I had a nice horn to move. Third, the legs do not move, but they are designed to hold well in good posture.

The cautions in the folding process are that you must put the legs in the body first and then proceed with the rest. And another thing to note is that the horn can fall off the molding plate during the printing process, so use Raft in that case.

Various animals with exoskeletons have inspired mankind. Not only the structure of the animal, but also the shape, inspired many products. Foldable design has tremendous potential for design and manufacturing. To maximize this possibility, it is necessary to apply foldable designs to animals with exoskeletons. This foldable stag beetle will open up another possibility of folding design.

    Hi, i could use some help. Each time i print it the legs fused (merged) into the body. Can you help? I have tried with Ender 3, anet a4 and mini select v1 with same results. :( Thanks

    If that is first layer problem, raise up nozzle height. It will be easier for you to understand the picture I attach. Thank you~

    The issue is not the first layer. The first layer is good, the issue is that after a few minutes the legs fuzed to the body

    If so, reduce the extrusion multiplier or increase the retraction.

    What would be a good scale to print in? 120 % ?

    This design is also recommended as a 100% size. And of course, the bigger the print the better. 120% would be very good. Thank you~
